Survival Polish - the rudiments of the language.

The student knows the rules of pronunciation, knows and uses the basic situational phrases and is able to lead a simple conversation (greeting, making appointments). He or she can also react verbally adequately to a given setting (on the phone, in a shop). Students introduce and describe themselves in the simplest way, talk plainly about their job, profession, country or home. They can communicate in Polish without the conscious knowledge of grammar.

Internal Operational - the preintermediate level.
At this point, the student consciously and usually correctly constructs simple and short utterances in Polish, and can not only participate in a conversation but also to lead it by asking questions. The student understands elementary written texts, which have been adequately abridged for the purpose of the class. A limited listening comprehension, allowing the student to understand the general meaning of the text. The student is able to give his opinion on a given topic; however, they cannot understand the press, television or radio news. Elementary knowledge of the Polish language system.

Communication - the intermediate level.
The student fluently talks about given certain topics, uses common phrases of everyday Polish and uses the language quite skilfully and to distinguish between formal and informal registers. Despite this, the student still does not have a sufficient vocabulary to cover both formal and informal way of talking about the same topic and therefore sometimes consciously resorts to the vocabulary of the wrong register. At that level students try to watch news in Polish TV, listen to the Polish radio or to read Polish newspapers. They are able to extract and repeat whole expressions or sentences, although the meaning of the entire message may still not be clear. They often use even complicated phrases correctly - a sign of getting used to the language.

External Operational - the upper intermediate level.
The student communicates in Polish fluently enough to actively participate not only in private meetings, but also in business ones. At this level the student understands a more complicated vocabulary and sometimes tries to use it on their own. Students know a few synonyms and antonyms of a word and distinguish between them in terms of their intensity or emotional qualities. They can express their thoughts, including some abstract ideas, and can talk about their feelings and emotions. They understand about 95 per cent of radio, TV or press news coverage, and are able to retell them in details and comment on them. They understand phraseological expressions, although they cannot actively use all the figurative phrases they know. Their style and grammar is quite rich, however, still some grammar mistakes are made.

Advanced - the advanced level.
The student fluently communicates in Polish, skilfully differentiating between the formal and informal language, actively participates in discussion on certain topics, which often include topics from their professional domain. An adept of this course fully understands written and spoken informative texts, even specialised ones. Furthermore, he or she is able to prepare and hold on their own a longer presentation on a given topic. Students develop their own, personal patterns of verbal behaviour in every life situation and their language use reveals some personal peculiarities. The quality of idioms and phrases they use resemble those used by them in their native language. They operate a language system close to that of a native Pole, with rich grammar and vocabulary structures. The grammatical correctness is fully automated.
